The Atomic Scale Physics group at the Department of Applied Physics is seeking postdoctoral researchers and/or PhD students to work within the ERC Advanced Grant “Artificial Designer Materials” project. The aim is to create artificial materials with controlled atomic geometry, interactions, magnetism and other relevant parameters to realize novel quantum materials hosting exotic electronic phases (e.g. 2D topological insulators and superconductors).
The positions involve research on either of the following topics: 1) heterostructures combining magnetic materials with superconducting substrates or 2) creation of artificial lattices with engineered electronic properties with low-temperature STM based atom manipulation.
We are looking for outstanding experimentalists who are eager to participate in our research. Experience in ultra-high vacuum surface science, materials growth and low-temperature STM would be highly desirable. The group aims to conduct research at the highest international level: candidates of all backgrounds that fit into this environment are invited to apply. Post-doc positions are generally for 2 years with the possible extension of 1 year, PhD students have four years to finish their thesis.
