Pre-doctoral Research Positions in Radar Engineering

Institute for Communications Engineering and RF-Systems. Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria

The RF-Systems group of the Institute for Communications Engineering and RF-Systems (http://www.jku.at/nthfs) at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) offers positions for pre-doctoral researchers that are to be filled as soon as possible. The research topics of our group include integrated RF circuits, passive RF components, as well as system design and signal processing for wireless sensing and localization. A strong focus is on mm-wave radar systems for automotive and industrial applications.

RF-system design and signal-processing related research positions in the following areas are currently available:

  • Design of low-power mm-wave circuits on SiGe, BiCMOS, and CMOS technology
  • Concept development for novel mm-wave sensors and sensor systems
  • Design of RF sensors and sensor systems (Radar)
  • Radar signal analysis, e.g. with compressed sensing and machine learning

The research projects are carried out together with industry and offer the possibility of a PhD thesis.

Candidates should have a master-equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Mechatronics, respectively, or in a closely related field like Computer Sciences, Mathematics or Physics. The working languages are English and German.

Required skills:

  • Experience in at least one of the following fields:
    • RF circuits, systems and measurement techniques
    • RF circuit design on SiGe, BiCMOS, or CMOS
    • Digital signal processing in general or special knowledge in
      compressed sensing or machine learning
    • Software and hardware co-development, e.g. with DSP- and/or FPGA
  • Independent and self-motivated working
  • Good IT skills, i.e. simulation tools (RF, circuit design, etc.), Python, Matlab

Job Description:

  • Carrying out research in one of the aforementioned projects
  • Publication and presentation of the scientific work in journals and at international conferences

The yearly gross salary for Ph.D. students is € 38,500.-- (working time 40 hours/week). An estimate for the net salary can be calculated at https://rechner.cpulohn.at/bmf.gv.at/#bruttoNetto.
