The Louvain Drug Research Institute (LDRI) and the Institute of Neuroscience (IoNS) are looking for a highly-motivated PhD student to pursue an exciting experimental and clinical project on “gut microbiome-brain interactions”

Our previous work suggests that intestinal microbiota may play a role in the development of the psychological symptoms associated with alcohol dependence (depression, anxiety, craving). This PhD thesis aims at:

1) Investigating the communication pathways between intestinal bacteria,brain functions and behavior (rodent studies)

2) Testing the beneficial effects of gut microbiota modulation on emotions (clinical studies)

Required skills/Qualifications:

Master in medical, biomedical, pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering,neurosciences or equivalent

Fluent in English (oral and written) and French (oral)

Funding: The first 2 years of funding are secured by an ARC grant

Start date: October 1st , 2018

Supervision: Prof N. Delzenne (LDRI/MNUT) and P. de Timary (IoNS/NEUR)

Skills/Qualifications

Master in medical, biomedical, pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering, neurosciences or equivalent
