Professor or Associate Professor (tenure track) of Genetics
This vacancy of Genetics enhances ecological and evolutionary genetics research at the University of Turku thereby supporting the internationally high-quality, wide-ranging basic and applied research on environmental influences, biotic interactions and evolution, the approaches involving all levels of biological organization.
The Faculty of Science and Engineering invites applications for the position of Professor or Associate Professor (tenure track) of Genetics. Candidates for Full Professorship / Associate professorship will have a distinguished academic career and an established international reputation in their fields, as well as an excellent publications record and success in acquiring external research funding. Preference will be given to persons already qualified for a full professor.
We expect the candidate to show a solid track record in ecological and/or evolutionary genetics, with methodological competence in molecular genetics/genomics. We expect the Professor / Associate professor to provide novel knowledge and generate innovative research on fields, including but not limited to, such as population genetics, conservation genetics, microbial genetics, molecular taxonomy and human genetics. We expect that candidates are active members of academic networks and presume them forming societal contacts necessary for outreach and research collaboration.
The duties of the professor include conducting and supervising scientific research, teaching – including supervising Master and PhD students, staying up-to-date with the most current scientific developments in the field, and participating in societal interaction and international cooperation in the field. The professor is expected to co-operate with other research groups, to form and lead his or her own research group and to obtain external research funding at both domestic and international level.
A person selected for the post will be working in the program of Physiology and Genetics at the Department of Biology, which provides an international scientific environment, performs excellently in terms of academic indicators in research and education, and holds a high profile in terms of outreach to the general public. The Department runs one B.Sc. and three M.Sc.-degree programs. The Doctoral Programme in Biology, Geography and Geology provides a supportive multidisciplinary framework for ample Ph.D. production. The Department houses the Center of Evolutionary Applications. Research in the Department of Biology covers organizational levels from molecules and cells to populations and ecosystems.
The position is subject to a six-month trial period.
